Lenny- do you have details or a contact person for the groups in Jerusalem and Givatayyim? I'd be interested in participating, subject to time and day restrictions. Thanks.

y'shcoyach Lennie ... great work! It is frightening to learn GP's thinking that relatively high PSA levels do not warrant follow-up!
Look forward to meeting you in April

I think that it is time for an up date of what is happening on the prostate cancer front in Israel.
The Living with Prostate Cancer Foundation is at last getting into action.
The first support in Jerusalem met on Monday 16th. It is also the first English speaking group in the country.
The Hadassa Ein Kerem Hospital has asked for our help in establishing a support group. I had a very successfull meeting there.
We are finalizing our website which should be up and running in the next few weeks. It will be in Hebrew only
I have been asked to help to have ED medication included in the basket of approved medicines. About 5 years ago I was involved in having Taxoterre included
Together with the Israeli Cancer Association we will participate in a national awareness campaign during September
Like most Foundations we are looking for funds to continue our projects. Some of the drug companies are helping us
There is much more of an awareness in the country. I am pleased that men are learning that a second opinion can be asked. Lap.surgery is now being carried out at Hadassa Ein Kerem, Wolfson Hospital and the Carmel Hospital in Haifa.
Some how or the other we have to get to the GPs,family doctors. To many men are being diagnosed late and some times to late. A friend of mine whose PSA jumped from 0.9 a year ago to 6.7 last week was told by his doctor that it was normal for a man of his age. He is 60.
Now that I have so many Israelis on the list may be some of them will like to contribute here.

Here is an update on what we (The Living with Prostate Cancer Foundation) are planning in the coming year
1. I am going ahead in establishing a support group in the Paardes Hanna/ Hadera area. I have spoken to most of the urologists in the area. Without exception they all sounded enthusiastic about the idea. Jerusalem is next in line, by the end of the year.
2. We are going ahead in making contact with the large corporations about having lectures on prostate cancer awareness.
3 We hope to have our website in the near future
4. I met with Bob Schiell from Calagary. He has offered what assistance he can and I am looking forward to co-operating with Prostaidcalgary.
5. We will help Arnon on his coming visit to Israel during in arranging meetings
We are looking for a patron. I would like to publish a booklet for newly diagnosed and men with PCa. This cost a lot of money which we do not. I am working on the pharmaceutical companys to sponsor this project.

I will be interested to see which branch of the "Israeli Lawyers Ass" supports this effort. :-)

If you have photos, why not share a few? It'll be good to get a feel fo the event.

One week ago today "The Living with Prostate Foundation" observed the Nation Prostate Cancer Awareness Day. We did not have many people attending the lectures, however there was tremendous press and media coverage.
Five years ago together with some of the countries leading prostate cancer medical people, we approached the Israeli Cancer Association to have a PCa Awareness Day. Three years ago they eventually did something in September to fall into line with the rest of of the world. To many of us it was a half hearted gesture. One day a year the Israeli public are reminded of a disease that will effect one six men. This year to my pleasant surprise the ICA put into action our original plan. Was that they were threatened by the Foundation? I feel that at long last the Israeli public are being exposed to information about the disease. Do not get me wrong, I am not putting down the ICA. They do a tremendous job with all types of cancer, but for some reason PCa has been put on a back burner.
The Foundation will carry on promoting PCa Awareness. We hope to organize awareness talks to the employees of big companies and organizations. I have approached by a few companies as well as a branch of the Israeli Lawyers Ass. We hope to start a pilot support group in Pardes Hanna. Once we have sorted out the problems we will start another one in Jerusalem

We have finally got our act together and will be observing the 16/9/08 as the Prostate Cancer Awareness Day. The drug companies have come through with some funding. Thank you Sanofi-Aventis,Astrazenca and Norvartis plus the various people who have donated.

Senior Urologists will be giving lectures at 18.00 on 16/9/08 at the following locations. Carmiel,Kiriyat Ata, Haifa, Pardes Hanah, Ramat Hasharon, Rehovot, Jerusalem and Beersheba. I hope to have TV and radio coverage and numerous papers are writing articles on the Foundation and the Awareness day.
Any of you who might be reading this and have connections in Israel, I ask for your help. Ask your Israel connections to help advertise this advent by emailing their friends telling them about our efforts.

I am posting a copy of a letter that I have sent out to English speaking Israelis who have shown an interest in the foundation that we have formed. I hope that Israeli visitors to this site will show an interest and contact me.

Over the last few months I have been in contact with you about the formation of the Living with Prostate Cancer Foundation. The registering of the Foundation is taking a lot longer than we
anticipated. This delay is creating problems as we have planned a Prostate Cancer Awareness Day for 16th September. This date is observed in many parts of the world as a Prostate Cancer Awareness Day.

We have planned the following program;

Besides (I hope) media coverage about Prostate Cancer Awareness Day, on Tuesday 16/9/08, urologists will talk about the importance of early detection of the disease in halls at various centers throughout the country.
1. Thursday and Friday prior to 16/9/08 leaflets will be distributed in the major shopping centers, by volunteers.
2. Friday 14/9/08 adverts will be placed in the local newspapers and I hope accompanying articles about Prostate Cancer.
3. The screening on TV of a film made by Mike Burstyn and his late wife. In this film they openly discuss all the problems that they faced living with prostate cancer

We need help in the following areas;
1. Help in distributing the leaflets in the Shopping Malls
2. A person in each center to organize a hall and co-ordinate the volunteers
3. People who have connections with the local press to help get media coverage
4. Anyone who has connections with a printer to print the stationery and flyers
5. The use of a Public Relations Firm at a reduced price.
6. As soon as the Amuta has been registered, we will open a bank account and then we will ask for cash donations.

I ask all who are interested in helping to email me as soon as possible the following information;
Full name, address, cell phone number and home phone number
Your email address
In what way you are prepared to help

We are hoping to get some financial support from the drug companies. It is our intention to work with the Israel Cancer Association on this project. At the moment I am trying to arrange a meeting with them.

A reminder of the aims of the Foundation;

A. Developing Prostate Cancer Awareness in the country
B. Giving support, guidance and information to men and their families with prostate cancer

We do not have much time left to organize this important event. Please reply as soon as possible.
