How many times in our lives have we said, [or thought] "NO WAY", only to change our minds at some time? Using "Tri Mix injections" was one of those" times". The discomfort of the actual injections did not come close to matching my "fears".

Howard,

I was definitely averse to trying injections for about three years after my RP. However, with proper training and motivation, I finally opted to give it a try and found it to be much less unpleasant than my preconceived notion of what it would be like. The needle is quite short and of a very fine guage. There are no pain nerves in the cavernosa so once you're through the skin there is no sense of pain. The results are the best of all the alternatives I have tried (and I've tried them all!). Keep an open mind and when the time is right, you won't have any problem.

Bill, Roger...Thanks for the responses. I did some googling after I posted my comment and found some more info on TriMix. I definitely would be adverse to injections but the actual TriMix site showed a video on a non-injection solution with a gel. Interesting. My doctor has me taking a daily dose of Cialis and it has helped some, but there is a way to go.

Hi Howard, I've no experience of TriMix but there is a brief article about it on WikiPedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trimix_%28injection%29. This tells you what's in it, and also cites four papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Howard, I suspect that your Dr. would be able to fully explain "Tri Mix" to you. I can only tell you it is a mix of 3 different compounds that my local compounding pharmacy compounds for me and I suspect many others in my area. It is administered by injection. As Tom Rowland commented, the ratio of the compounds depends on the individual and it may take a while for the "perfect mix". This is the best for me, but I suspect that others may not care for the "injection" part. If you would like the number of my compounding pharmacy here in WV I will be glad to give it to you and I am sure that they would be glad to give you the names of the compounds.

I'm at 3 1/2 months post-op. Like Tim, my doctor sent me to a physical therapist for help with controlling my incontinence. She showed me the "pelvic brace" exercise to build up strength. She also attached me to a machine and we did some bio-feedback training. It really helped in that the machine showed I was trying too hard to prevent leakage. By finding a "zone" somewhere between total relaxation and maximum effort, I have been able to go longer between trips to the bathroom, have gone to needing only two pads during the day, and have been staying dry at night. My doctor now thinks I should regain full continence. It may still take a couple of months, however.

My 3 month PSA test showed <0.01 which the doctor told me meant "undetectable". That was a very welcome sign, but as he said, he won't say I'm cured until I stay like this for five years.

I'm interested in hearing more about this "tri mix". Can anyone give me some information as to what it is. Thanks.

My experience is similar. Tried it all before tri mix. Mine comes from University Compounding Pharmacy in California. The proportions in the tri mix have to be experimented with to get the optimal combo, but it's worth the effort.

My history is radical surg 12 years ago. Incontinence 90% right after catheter removal. Tried quite a few things for ED,[pump, and most other things I had read about], limited success until a local compounding pharmacy told me about "TRI MIx" [the best for me of all the things that I have tried.]

Thanks Mike. I got a zero PSA on my 3 month. Incontinence is coming along. Now to fight the ED. I am at about 60 percent with effort. I go tomarrow to get a pump. Not sure what to think about that.
