Darryl, I wanted to say that I truly admire the care and attention you've devoted to this issue. The empathy you have shown inspires me and has directed me in untold ways. We're soon to publish our second book...a companion book to our Gay Man's Guide To Prostate Cancer. Help us come up with a better title, which, to date, is A Gay Man's Prostate Cancer Primer.

Given what appears to be a very low doubling time (not in any kind of imminent danger), I wonder if you would be a good candidate for Provenge when (it should) it gets approved late this year or early next year. A little boost to your immune system might really slow that down. In any case, I certainly can appreciate your aversion to radiation. To me, having the operation was not a huge deal. I am not 100% where I was before but I am probably 95% so I am very grateful. Would prefer not to be microwaved though. Seems like that could do subtle damage that over time could become more signficant. I guess I'll have to wait and see what I'll need. 6 months was undetectable but coming up on 1 year very soon. A little nervous but I suspect everyone on this website who has prostate cancer understands that feeling!

Willis, how are you doing? I am not an expert at this stuff but it seems like your PSA rise is pretty slow. Maybe you'll never have to do anything about it except diet and excercise stuff?

Wondering if have ever heard of a book called "Eat to Beat Prostate Cancer" by David Ricketts. I am pretty sure David is gay. In any case, in his situation, his psa never became undetectable even after surgery and radiation but his psa rise has been pretty slow for a number of years and he and his doctors believe it is due to diet, stress reduction, exercise, etc.

I am curious. When you were first diagnosed many years ago, what was your gleason score, stage, etc.

I told my doctor I would not do the radiation treatment, at least now. We are going to monitor the PSA closely and deal with the situation(s) as they arise. Glad you got the "go-ahead" on the sexual part. I'd really be interested if and when you develop any side effects from the radiation. Good luck!

I spoke to my doctor and he said go right ahead and enjoy. I'd like to continue for as long as I'm able to. I'm just beginning my third week of treatment- so I'm on the alert for the first side effects, if any appear.

Seems to me a good question Phil - I'm trying to decide whether to undergo "salvage" radiation but am not convinced that the benefit potential is good enough for me. I'd like to hear what your doctor has to say, but it seems to me that there would be no reason not to have sex if you want to.

It's so quiet here....kind of spooky. I see it's a small group...but speak up guys!

I'll toss a question at you. I've just started radiotherapy. On the way home today, I thought of a question which I'll ask my doc tomorrow. Is it OK to have sex during the period of treatment? What do you guys say from your experience?
