OncologyStat has a lot to offer - a keyword search produced over 5,000 articles on prostate cancer, many full-text PDF.

Lab Tests Online is a seriously useful site, published by the American Association of Clinical Chemistry.

One can select by dozens of lab tests, conditions and diseases, or screening criteria, for a concise summary aimed at both health professionals and the patient. In addition one can use the 'local' sites of the US, Australia, Czech Republic, Germany, Spain, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland and the UK.

One caution might be that some pages have not been revised for a few years; PSA in the UK, for instance, is dated 2006. There is also a distinct difference between the various country sites.

A public resource on clinical lab testing from the laboratory professionals who do the testing - peer-reviewed, non-commercial and patient-centred.

I think this has been mentioned elsewhere on the site, but just in case, there's 21-day trial online access to the New England Journal of Medicine here. Hundreds of papers in our field of interest.

I am going to see if Nancy Peress's list of online Pca Resources can be made available through this site and the main web site too.

I suspect there are few prostate cancer information resources that I've not taken a look at...and I've been a member of numerous forums, especially shortly after diagnosed. However, the New Prostate Cancer InfoLink seems to ferret out the best of those resources and put links to them here. Plus, there are comments here about studies, etc. that I find very useful (sometimes candid, which I like).

Admittedly, there are a few forums that are not moderated very well or are just a mechanism to vent frustrations...and some of those are downright depressing, especially in situations of late stage cancer. I'm fine putting in my time keeping a finger on this forum. I don't think I'm missing much. One stop shop here.

Of course, other sites do contain important information for helping to understand the disease and its relative "score", etc. But the info section of this forum covers the important ones. At least it does to my knowledge.

Nevertheless, I'm always interested in learning more about PC and new information resources are welcomed.

For friends who are newly diagnosed, I always refer them here. I wish that I'd known about it prior to my prostatectomy.

Donna:

All the urologist needs to do for your husband to get a PCA3 test done is get a urine sample. The PCA3 test is carried out by specialized laboratories such as Bostwick Laboratories. You can contact one of these laboratories yourself to get the details.

What you DO need to check on is whether your insurance provider will cover the cost of this test. Many do, but some won't.

I should add that I didn't read read the knol referred to below and am not therefore in a position to recommend it or comment on whether it's authoritative. Just the first example I saw.

Following Richard's comment on Google Scholar and Google Answers, it's worth mentioning Google "Knols" (Knol is Google's label for "a unit of knowledge").

Google's Knol project is designed to encourage sharing of authoritative articles submitted by people who understand their subject well. Here's Google's write up on it.

http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2007/12/encouraging-people-to-contribute.html

Here's an example of a Knol found by entering "knol prostate cancer treatments" into google's search box. This is the 1st in a list of approx 2,830 results returned for that search.
