Vizualization Techniques

Using the power of the mind to aid one's recovery

Members: 6
Latest Activity: Oct 13

There is a long history of people being able to "will themselves" back to health through the use of "self actualization" and "visualization" techniques in which they focus on the clinical outcome that they wish to achieve (usually in concert with actual medical/clinical intervention as well). This group is intended for the discussion of applications of such techniques in management of prostate cancer.

I just read Getting Well Again for Carl Simonton et al..
This book written in the 80's leaves you on a high.
Its great to feel the enthusiasm of oncologists and psychologists when they were first discovering the mind over body relationships.
More recent books of the same stream focus much more on food and chemicals I find this less positive but still true and important.

I try to go once a week to a group of cancer patients performing relaxation visualization (sophrology) with a professional. I dont think it cures me but it surely helps me deal with the situation. Being with other patients that live similar fears and physical problems brings me frienship and support I don't find from others.

Bill Short has used such techniques once before (to deal with a serious kidney problem) and is now using them again to "manage" the risk of progression of his prostate cancer prior to scheduled surgery. The power of the mind to affect one's health should never be underestimated.
