Hi Kevin My apologies for not replying sooner. I only check this site occasionally. I hope your months turn out to be many and that you are able to cram as much as you can into them. Since I was diagnosed my motto has been "Got to have more fun"-...

Hey Dr. Wilson, I was in a study involving Lupron and Taxotere beginning in March, 2008 for about 14 months when my PSA started back up. My Oncologist added high dose Ketoconaole (400 mg x 3/day) to continuing. The side effects, so far, are relat...

Hi Rick. Can you possibly provide links to the "several studies" you mention? Likewise, can you provide more about the whole vs. skimmed milk? Finally, has anything been done on cheese and PCa? Where else might those of us using hormone supression...

Hi All, I was seeded in 2004, but have on the basis of psa alone been diagnosed with recurrent PCA. Five months ago I had a Zoladex injection, which brought my PSA down from 3.69 to 1.56. After the three months for the active stage of the injecti...

Do I sense a little antagonism in this thread, between omnisicient surgical types and laymen? For me, there is a sense of powerlessness over PCa, and a wish--an urgent wish--to try to do something, some adjunct, to make me feel empowered. True, I ...

About Me:
Was diagnosed with cancer of the prostatic ducts at age 44, treated with unsuccessful brachytherapy. Current PSA 0.51 (but up from 0.12 last December). Trying to control the PCA with one-month-on, one-month-off Androcur, but it's not a great success. Makes one feel quite depressed and anxious.

Just to clarify althought Dr. Onik does know about as much as anyone I know of about cryo and partial cryo as far as I know he would certainly do a total cryo. I have spoken with him over the phone several times. It seems to me there is not proof in what you have written that it has metastasized so go for a cure now if you can.

If you are looking at salvage cryotherapy, then you should go see Dr. Gary Onik. He does partial cryo BUT he also is one of the two or three most knowledgeable in cryo in my opinion. AND he is in Florida where I think you are. The side effects aren't nearly as bad as death. Continence is usually not a problem even with total cryo and as for erections. There are loads of ways to have sex!
Let me know if you wish to correspond further or talk.

Cheers and hang in there, you are not the only young guy.

Hi - I am new to this page.I am looking for comment about Androcur. I am taking 100mg, 3 times a day which I feel is a very heavy dose and making me sick. I have a metastatic cancer. My psa is doubling every three months. Initially I had 3 months of radio therapy. I would like comment from anyone who can talk about this dosage of Androcur.

Dr Wilson, I am new to the site but just to support your suspicion. My brother (58 y/o), visited me from Jamaica, where I was also born, moved to the states at age 11. Anyway, I had 1 question for him, WHEN WAS YOUR LAST PSA?. hIS ANSWER WAS, I DON'T KNOW. I had access to drawing blood on him. The reults showed a blood sugar of 355 and aPSA of 8. He went back to Jamaica a few weeks later and followed up on my suspician. 2 months later he had Radical prostatectomy in Jamaica. Gleason 7, Bilobal and surface area greater than 30%. He was also told that cancer cells were found quite close to the magin. No further treatment was recommended. His psa is 0.1 right now. How many men are in te same position and won't have a chance of survival because of lack of access, ignorance or just plain machismo. We have a real problem.

Yesterday I had a phone call from my urologist telling me that, because my bracvhytherapy was not a success, I must now have further treatment. It seems the only thing on offer is cryotherapy, but there was ominous talk of severe side effects. Naturally, I am far from comfortable with this. Any thoughts or advice? Currently I am on intermittent androcur, and my PSA has risen from 0.12 to 1.99 over the past year. I am told that something will have to be done "within the next six months".

Yes, you are prolific. Good one. I was just down in Kingson. Maybe you saw a post in the Caribbean group. Got to meet Trevor Tulloch who I like very much. Not sure if you know him. What do you teach at UWI?
