Thanks - sorry for the tardy response acknowledging your comment. I'm currently on Bicalutamide, 50 mg twice a day for 3 months to shrink my prostate prior to brachytherapy. No side effects really as yet except for some weight gain but then again I've also just given up smoking and it's winter here (not the best time for too much exercise)

Welcome Encanta. You are absolutely correct about the fact that prostate cancer can recur (either locally or elsewhere) many years after initial treatment. However, the risk for this happening depends on your clinical characteristics at the time of treatment. For example, the Kattan nomograms can be used pre-treatment to predict the risk of recurrence (for surgery, external beam radiation, and brachytherapy).

About Me:
I was diagnose with Prostate Cancer June 10 2003, After receiving a list of options of the types of operation presented to me, I had to decide which type of operation I felt would be best for me, so I hit the books, and web, trying to learn as much as I could for each procedures in a short period of time after a couple of days researching into all my options, I decided on seed implant, although I had made my decision, my studies and research did not end for another 3-4 years. Although I’m told that I’m cancer free, I learn that there is no such thing, it could re-appear at any unknown time, maybe not in the prostate, but other part of the body.
