Bryan: One suggestion I have....buy some convertible pants at REI or similar place....the ones that zip off to shorts. I lived in these for the "8 days of the catheter".

FYI...just like to say that I "overcame" through determination the effects of my Lupron hormone treatment. I started 6 weeks ago and thought side-effects, particularly fatigue, would prevent me from going on planned Colorado backpacking trip with co…

Jerry: If you have only seen one PSA rise so far, I would talk to your physicians about getting a second PSA done in about a month to try to get some sort of handle on your PSA doubling time. Your PSA might even fall again!

With regard to my personal experience ... Have a look about the "Profile Information about me on my page." I am NOT a patient. I am a health care communications specialist with significant experience in the field of cancer in general and prostate cancer in particular.

Dear Jerry:

1. A critical issue is how fast your PSA is rising after the RP. Do you know what your PSA doubling time is?

2. On the basis of recent data, extended hormone therapy is commonly combined with radiation to treat rising PSA after RP. However, this is disputable, and may depend on the answer to item 1 above.

3. The one thing I would strongly suggest is that you have at least one shot of hormone therapy to drop your PSA to < 0.1 ng/ml prior to starting radiation therapy.

4. I suggest you read the two connected articles on radiation + hormone therapy recently posted on the main site: click here and click here. Then you can discuss this information with your doctors.
