About Me:
I've been very active most of my life. Things changed in 2007 when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer (PCa). Looking back, the warning signs were there prior to my diagnosis. Unfortunately, the doctors didn't see them. Below is the history of my PCa.

1999 PSA = 1.1, DRE normal.
2002 PSA = 2.4, DRE normal.
2004 PSA = 3.5, DRE normal.
2005 diagnosed with BPH, DRE normal (incorrect diagnosis, I had PC)
2007 PSA = 19, DRE normal.

12/21/07 Biopsy, positive for cancer. Gleason R=3+3, L=3+4
2/4/08 Robotic Radical Prostectamy. Path Report, T2c, Gleason 4+5, margins positive, 20 - 25% involvement;

After surgery, PSA was undetectable until October when it started rising. The PSA velocity showed it doubling every 2 months. This is a sign of a very aggressive cancer. So aggressive measures had to be taken!

I did 37 courses of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), 5 Chemo sessions with Taxotere and will complete my 13-month Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) in April 2010.

10/29/08 PSA = 0.2
12/9/08 PSA = 0.34
12/10/08 Started IMRT. Finished 2/2/09
2/18/2009 PSA = 0.06
2/20/2009 Started Taxotere Chemo.
Check out my blog to follow my progress through Chemo.
3/5/2009 Started 12-month course of ADT (Trelstar Depot IM injection every 3 months)
4/24/2009 PSA < 0.01,undetectable!!!
5/18/2990 Chemo #5. The last one!!!!!!!
5/19/2009 PSA < 0.01,undetectable!!!
6/17/2009 PSA < 0.01,undetectable!!!
7/22/2009 PSA < 0.01,undetectable!!!
8/11/2009 PSA < 0.01,undetectable!!!
9/3/2009 PSA < 0.003,undetectable!!!
11/3/2009 PSA < 0.01, Undetectable!!!

One of my big frustrations is the lack of information from the medical industry on diet and life-style. I was eating all the wrong things and was in a very high stress life style. I've changed both now and lost 30 lbs and my PB dropped 20 points.

October 17 2009 Update

Well, it's been a while since I've updated my blog. I'm getting back to normal, which means doing more and more every day. I'm back to working 40+ hours each week along with my family life.

My progress:
- It's been 22 weeks since my last chemo.
- I am getting my hair back. It's grown about 1"
- R-eye tube pulled out again ... getting it put back in Monday, for the 3rd time.
- Neuropathy, fingers are much better, but the feet are still very painful. I started taking Gabapentin. It reduced the pa… Continue

Sunday August 2 2009 update

Well, it's been 11 weeks since Chemo #5, my last chemo session. Starting to get noticeable hair growth on my head. No more "Telly Savalas (Kojak)" look for me!

Still having edema and need to take the diuretics. General strength is coming back. I had to replace a second attic fan yesterday. It was much less of a struggle than the one I replace last weekend (see previous blog).

Neuropathy still a problem in my feet. Finger… Continue

Sunday July 26 2009 update

Energy level is getting better every day. The neuropathy is decreasing, although at night it is still very prevalent in my feet and finger tips. I'm looking forward to working out at the Gym starting next week. I've already got my workout routine from my trainer. We're starting out at zero weight on the machines (which is a good thing since I was exhausted at that level). It was a good/bad moment. Bad because I could see how much I've lost, but good because I know I'll be back to where I was. It… Continue

July 15 2009 Update

Well, I'm 80% back. I'm climbing stairs here at work rather than taking the elevator. I just got back from reinstating my membership at the gym. I start working out again next week. Looking forward to getting my muscles back.

The hair is coming back nicely. The only lingering effect is neuropathy in my finger tips and feet. It's much less that it was, but it's still there. Balance is getting better. I fell over the 4th of July weekend and injured my ribs. The ADT is taking it's toll on my bone… Continue

Sunday June 28, 2009 update

It's been 6 weeks since my last chemo.

I'm starting to getting back to normal. My feet and legs are still swelling up, but not as bad as before. The doc doubled my diuretics, and that's helping. My energy is coming back ... I'm able to walk as far as I need without getting tired.

The neuropathy is still a problem in my feet. Fingers are much better, but gets worse at night.

I'm looking forward to getting my life back to normal. Every day I'm a little better. Doc says it may take 3, 6 or upto… Continue
