Dear Kerry,

Thanks very much for your questions on my page.

Yes, anybody who has "unnecessary" surgery is rushing. By definition.

Should there be a term of watchful waiting before surgery? Like a cooling off period? No, certainly not in every case. Given the imprecision of our staging and prognostic tools, there is potentially serious risk in waiting. Each case really has to be examined on its own merits, not by generalized and potentially misleading guideline.

The question then is when is surgery necessary? This is a question with no easy answer, in that risk of surgery and risk of not having surgery are both very hard to quantify. We are dealing with competing and imprecise risks of both directions.

To learn more about prostate cancer decision making please have a look at our main site, starting perhaps with the page for the newly diagnosed. Also please consider following some of the many discussions within this network's groups on the many related topics.

Thank you. Arnon

Kerry,
Thanks for the wonderful day of golf. I really enjoyed it and the beautiful course and grounds. I think I was a little intimidated and it might have effected my game at least that is my excuse and I'm sticking too it. My wife starts her job next monday so she is happy and that makes a happier home for me. I hope your wife is not mad at you for taking me golfing.
Talk later thanks much,
John

Kerry,
We will have fun. Just a question can I wear shorts? The locker will be nice so I can change into my work clothes afterwards.
See you Friday,
John

Yesterday was hot but nice in the morning. It's the heat that makes me tired, because I played today and hit three balls in each hole and feel great. Muirfield was nice but being by myself I did leave around noon.
Now on to our game, the surgeon's office called me and I am suppose to have surgery on my elbow the 23rd of June. So we have two options, play before then or wait for two months. I would rather play sooner than later, but you are the host and it's your decision.
Thanks,
John

Going to the practice round on Tuesday at the Memorial. The VA has a military day all vets get in free. Sure hope it doesn't rain, but I think it's suppose to.
When I try to play I get so tired since I am anemic from the rectal bleeding. Been playing just nine.
Other than that life is good.
Peace,
John

Hi Kerry,

How is your game coming along? Have you been able to play much with all this rainy weather? I have not played much at all but want to play more. I will try this week to get out more this week. Been working in my garden trying to get everything planted between the rain. My psa went down a little to .04 from .05 so that was good news. Taking celebrex now for these random cancer cells according to Dr. Myers.
Enjoying the Players Championship now and tomorrow.
Peace,
John
