I absolutely understand. People make a big thing about the fear factor in the African American community in particular, but it exists in every community.

You might be interested in the fact that in some Caribbean islands the fear factor seems to be diminishing, and there appears to be a willingness to undergo regular testing once people appreciate that the most significant implication of a positive PSA result is not necessarily impotence -- but more men need to speak out. This has, of course, required a significant education effort -- and often the islands have the benefit of some form of national health service, so screening is free.

A good start is still a good start. There's a lot to do to raise rational awareness and understanding about prostate cancer in the African American and the white communities across America -- without scaring everyone half to death (which is a big part of the problem).
