Hi Mitu (and Blossom and Angela), Here is an article from 2001 from the PSA-Rising archives... it pretty well lays out where my dad went during and after hormonal treatment: http://www.psa-rising.com/grassroots/pcspesbanderson071801.htm Unfortun...

Paul - don't look at active surveillance like a forever decision. If you need time to research - thanks to early detection... you probably have it... work with your MD to track your cancer - and prepare for any aggressive treatment you may need in...

About Me:
I'm the Executive Director of the Prostate Cancer Coalition of North Carolina (PCCNC). The PCCNC is a community of people dedicated to the defeat of prostate cancer. By working together the citizens of North Carolina will see a day when prostate cancer is no longer a threat to the families of our state.

The PCCNC was founded by my father, Robert J. Anderson (Bob) on March 21, 2001.
Prostate cancer is a major health issue in North Carolina. The death rate from prostate cancer in North Carolina is the one of the highest in the nation; African-American men in North Carolina have one of the highest death rates from prostate cancer in the world. Not nearly enough is being done in North Carolina to battle this health crisis.

The coalition focuses on three goals:

1. Raising awareness of prostate cancer as a major health threat to North Carolina families.
2. Promoting community, state and national actions to battle this disease.
3. Uniting and coordinating our efforts to increase the effectiveness of those affected or concerned about prostate cancer.

Dear Mary: Can you give me a call on my cell at 267 250 5087? I am VERY interested in getting a little more info about the Wake County initiative that got brokered by PCCNC the other day, and I would like to ask you some questions.

Mary - sorry for the late response. Family started arriving on the 3rd and things were hectic for a few days. Things are going well with PCI and the network. Very busy, but exciting time. With the coming together of major PCa organizations, we may be seeing history in the making. Can't wait to hear what you've got coming up. Maybe you'll be able to attend the WAPC meeting this year and we'll get some time to talk. Keep in touch. Talk to you soon.

Mary, it's so good to see your posts. How are you? Hopefully the last few months have been refreshing. Thanks for sharing in the Daughters group. You and I know firsthand how they feel. I look forward to hearing more from you. Thanks! Angela

Mary - how have you been? I know you were taking a little time off. Hope you're well. Did you have a wonderful holiday? I'm sure you guys will be involved with the campaign for the increased DoD funding for PCa. I hope we'll be hearing from you soon. Maybe I'll get a chance to head down your way and we can meet again. Take care. Know that I'm thinking about you.

Thank you! My father passed away this past Sunday. I was with him along with my mother and my two daughters. It was very stressful because he seemed to be struggling so much. He did that for two days. He had been in a nursing home for almost three weeks because he required so much care. We were with him everyday while he was there so I am trying not to feel too guilty for putting him in there. The last two days we were there day and night. I have looked online to see if it is normal for a cancer patient to struggle with death so much and it seems that it is. He was on morphine and oxygen and the nurses said he was not in pain, I hope they were right. He was 87 and lived a good life. I am very sad and miss him but I also have my mother living with us for now and I need to focus on her. She is not an easy person to live with so wish me and my husband luck. I am praying for lots of patience.

Thanks. I'll shoot Sherrie a note and see if we can hook up while we're there.

I completely understand. There have been a few times I had to do just the same. Stop long enough to get things together, regroup and get ready to start again. Take time for yourself. Yes, I have your number. I'll give you a call, maybe sometime this week. I'm sure you'll get all the information from the meeting. We'll talk soon. Take care.
