Nat:

Re the radiotherapy trial you and your Dad are considering ... Can you tell me what PSA level your Dad's PSA would have to rise to before they gave him radiotherapy if he did NOT go into the immediate radiotherapy arm of the trial?

Most specialists now tend to believe that, in men with a rising PSA after radical prostatectomy, radiotherapy should be begun before the PSA is any higher than 0.5 ng/ml.

Hello Nat. I've read your other posts (and the replies). Just tell you Dad you're there to help him deal with this (whether he likes it or not) -- and make sure you tell him with a big Aussie grin!

If/when you have have questions, just fire away, we're all here to help.

How ya going' mate? I am sorry to hear about your father and am pleased that you have joined the network. You will find a LOT of very knowledgeable and sympathetic men and women here.

You will also find fellow Aussie Moik Keighley, whose father was also diagnosed. Moik is a serious fellow, as you can see in this video.

Seriously, he's rock solid and if you want to reach out to someone who perhaps understands the specific Australian scene better than us folks in Florida and Virginia, then by all means get in touch with him. Tell him I sent you.

Nat - welcome. I'm so sorry to hear about your father. Do not view this as a death sentence, although we all felt exactly the same at that moment. Many men live for years with this disease, even with your father's grade (which I read in the Wives and Partners group). Why don't you add the info about your dad in your profile so other members will understand where you're at. You may also want to join the Daughters and Granddaughters Group. Being a daughter, I agree it is a very private journey for our Dads. So we just have to be there for them, and remain positive to be a strength for them. I'll send you my number via e-mail - feel free to contact me anytime you need to talk.
