Aloha Kevin, My semen production is very small, like if we go for more than a week, you feel/see just a little, more often & you don't feel anything. After a cysto, the painful spasms last a couple of days and it takes about 2 weeks to get back to...

Well if the prostate is producing semen after RT, then there must be some cells alive. I thought the good cells were temporarily stunned, but recovered eventually, while the cancerous ones never come back (we pray). Kevin (Brachy-2003, HDR-2009)

Aloha Phil, This past few days, my experience indicates that even though my prostate got a high radiation dose, the prostate sphincter is working as designed. So, 25 months after EBRT, it is possible that part of the prostate is returning. I know,...

My radiation oncologist waited until 2 months after the end of treatment. He said that the prostate needs time to "cool down" and that an early psa would give unrealistic results. Ask to be re-tested in a month or two. Remember- think long-term in...

My radiologist waited 2 months after the end of treatment before doing the first psa test. He said that at that the end of treatment the prostate was too "hot" to get a reliable reading and that it needs at least 2 months to settle. Then he remind...

ED is a quality of life issue. Before considering subsidy of quality of live treatments we must insure that life-saving drugs are covered. The budget doesn't expand to fit all needs unfortunately- and so needs must be prioritized. In case you're w...

You should be happy that your PSA is low and decreasing. The higher the psa level, the greater the likelihood that you've got cancer cells. The aim of treatment is to kill off the cancer and success should result in a lowered psa- so congratulatio...

About Me:
I'm 66 y/o, dx just one year ago. Gleason 6, 2 positive cores out of 10 (on same side). I've chosen active surveillance as my path. I'm gay, out and happily partnered for the past 26 years- and counting.

May 14 Update
Life brings it's surprises and changes. The active surveillance was rather short-term. A repeat test showed PSA up, Gleason up to 7(3+4). Biopsy found 5 out of 12 cores(all on same side) to be cancerous. Met with a couple of radiologists, chose one. Had the gold inserted (still not very common here), made the model-- and started radiation treatment yesterday!

Hey Phil ... Sorry to hear the progression from AS to Tx became essential. Hope everything goes well. Regular exercise (including some mild weight lifting) is supposedly good for those undergoing radiation. Time to "buff up!"

Hope the radiation treatment goes well. I have just had my iodine implants - it was wacky to have the nurse point a geiger counter at my groin and hear it go off the scale!

Hi Phil

I was revisting the radiation group and was reminded of your potential dilemma on external vs internal radiation therapy. Is this something you are still thinking about or are you still busy relaxing by the pool (looking at the photo :-) and just monitoring stuff?

Welcome Phil. I hope your PSA is happily stable at some lovekly low number.

There are a number of other "out" and gay men on this site who will be able to share perspectives as necessary, particularly with respect to partner-related issues. Please take your time to look around and ask any questions that you like. There is an enormous amount of additional information and a daily newsblog on our main site.

Hi Phil
Pleased to see you here. It is a long time since we last spoke. I hope that you are having a psa at least every 6 months
