Ron replied to Kimberly's discussion 'POST HIFU PSA' in the group HIFU
Your doctor, apparently, has seen or heard of this situation before, so he isn't worried, he's comfortable waiting another 3 months. It'd be hard for me to sit still! My doctor told me he feels badly about his first 20 patients. The fact they gave…

I guess they've seen this or heard of it before...but as you are new to it all - I am surprised they don't try to explain it - sometimes doctors need a kick in the.... Your husband isn't in any pain ~ correct? They feel comfortable not seeing him u…

Was your husband instructed to drink 50 oz of water a day until the catheter came out? I was instructed to, to flush out all that gunk. I'm thinking your doc hasn't gotten back to you because he isn't worried, he knows what the problem is, he isn't…

I am thinking he has an inflammed gland. He had the foley catheter, and there were lots of problems when they used to use it ..... when they changed to the Supra Pubic the problems decreased remarkably. Kim also said he did have a blockage, of cour…

Hi Kimberly, How many days after the HIFU treatment did your husband wait until he clamped off the catheter and peed normally? Is his urine stream strong and fast? or slow?

Mike....As he still has the gland....can it be BPH?

Ron replied to Kimberly's discussion 'POST HIFU PSA' in the group HIFU
Thanks for your post Mike. Just to add: Dr. Scionti told me there can be a "post PSA bounce" after HIFU. What I called "phantom". But that high?..... Just looked up micrometastatic cancer...and it is cancer that has spread, but is too small to be…

Ron replied to Kimberly's discussion 'POST HIFU PSA' in the group HIFU
Kimberly, I've been thinking what I would do if I was in your shoes.... I imagine your doc will request a scan or MRI to "see" the cancer, thereby knowing where it is. It is improbable that it is still in the gland as he doesn't ejaculate, so there…

Ron replied to Kimberly's discussion 'POST HIFU PSA' in the group HIFU
I'd certainly be worried too! My PSA is 0.3, his shouldn't be over 0.9. But at a FDA trial I would expect a PSA of 0.1 as they are supose to get every single drop of tissue. The fact nothing comes out means they took all of the gland, it also means…

What doctor did he use? I'm thinking he used the doctor who only does partial ablation,. Or he chose to have partial ablation. Does anything come out when he ejaculates?

I was deleted as well when I posted the letter I recieved from the FDA in response to my question if the FDA has a Board of Directors. They responded that they don't, as sitemaster said, they call them a "Team of Reviewers".

I'd have a hard time starting hormone treatment with a reading of 0.1 I'd wait and see if the reading goes up, before I'd start. I have faith in HIFU ~ completely. But, I see you started...so best of luck on that junk.

got it! Is my reading right ~ that your PSA was tested prior to hormone treatment and it was 0.1 ? 4+ hours of treatment means they really took their time and did you up well, as my treatment only lasted 2.5 hours. Yours is a great story! I'm sure…

Ed, Post your story on the other page here that deals with HIFU, it's being linked to from other cancer sites, so reaches a larger audience: http://prostatecancerinfolink.net/2009/02/22/hifu-under-appreciated-or-over-promoted/ Lets get this thing ma…

Oh so happy to hear more and more of us are hearing about HIFU. I had mine through International HIFU, who I cannot say enough good about as well, the thing is ~ they care (I think they work together -- they both use the Sonablate). They go out of t…

Ron: After first line treatment, the patient's PSA is all over the place for all sorts of reasons (depending on the form of treatment). I would agree with your doctor that waiting for a significant period of time before taking a first post-treatment PSA is correct. One might argue over exactly how long, but 3 months is quite customary.

I just read that the Albatherm has a 52% redo rate. Read it here written in November 2007 by the Association Francaise d’Urologie, published in 2008

For the 117 patients there were 179 sessions of HIFU. In fact, 61/117 patients (52 percent) required two sessions of HIFU.

Hi Ron,
If you add someone as your friend they do NOT have your email address. We appreciate and shall abide by your wish to remain anonymous, and also appreciate you becoming involved and sharing information on HIFU. This is great. Keep it up. I am the one from Centennial CO, and I am a patient at the Univ. of Colo. with Dr. Crawford also. George

When you "add someone as a friend" does that mean he has your email address?
I find you all that share your photo and full name very daring, we live in a crazy world, and I've already had a couple refer to me in terms I don't deserve. So, I feel better being anonymous.

Ron: You can get Walter's "take" on his HIFU experience in the discussion entitled "Too Good to Be True?" IMHO this demonstrates (as usual) that outcomes to prostate cancer treatment can vary greatly from man to man depending on a multiplicity of factors.

Hi Ron,
I had the same trouble when I joined. It takes a little bit to get on board, we all have some trial and error. Your comment on HIFU below was left on your page.. Common error. To leave it on the HIFU site, go there, click REPLY and leave comment on that site. Mike straightens me out all the time

I had HIFU Dec.19th by Dr. S. Scionti of Hilton Head S. Carolina in Puerto Vallarta.

And yes, some men opt for partial HIFU. The doctor can see the cancer through the computer image. I had it all zapped as didn't want to take any chances.

HIFU is fantastic, no recovery (except for the damn catheter!), just cancer free! I will get tested every 3 months for quite a while. Yes, the treatment is nothing, a piece of cake, and no worry of what the radiaiton might do to you later on.

HIFU uses ultrasound energy, or sound waves, to heat and destroy specifically targeted areas of tissue. During HIFU, the sound waves pass through healthy tissue without causing damage. However, at the focal point of the sound waves (like a magnifying glass focusing the rays of the sun to burn a leaf), the tissue temperature rises to 90 degrees Celsius destroying the targeted tissue.

I totally recommend Dr. Scionti... HIFUcarecenter.com or internationalhifu.com
