Hi Mr. Williams. The purpose of our prostate cancer study is to evaluate the extent to which the quality of life in prostate cancer survivors and their partners is associated with social support and emotional contagion. To date our study is showing that psychological distress is prevalent among prostate cancer survivors and their partners, but is mitigated by social support from family and friends and aggravated by distress in one's partner. Our experienced counselors call prostate survivors once a week for eight weeks and their partner (can be anyone that survivor desingates to participate, ie spouse, son, brother, friend) four times during the eight week period. The calls are always scheduled at times most convenient to participants. We complete a baseline questionnaire (T1) repeat the questionnaire a week after the last session (T2) and two months later (T3). This study is funded by the National Cancer Institute. I hope this information helps. We have a toll free number: 1-866-218-6641. or email at: figueroa@nursing.arizona.edu. Thank you.

Greg;

Wadsworth is West of Akron 9 miles east of the intersection of I-71 and I-76. I have friends in Cincinnati, Tony and Rhodie Butler. They live at 5559 FOXRUN CT CINCINNATI, OH 45239. Tony is also black and I have got him getting a PSA check each year. So far he is ok. When I was diagnosed in 2001 I told all of my friends and encouraged them to have annual physicals and be aware of what their PSA was. I found that most had no idea what PSA was. Of those I spoke with - one in California, one in Texas, one in Alabama, and one in Michigan discovered they had Prostate cancer. All but the one from Michigan are black!

I always had an annual physical and each time I was told that I was as healthy as a 25 year old. I quit going for three years and my wife finally made me go. She said regardless of how I felt I was not getting any younger and so I finally went just to humor her. All of the tests were fine except the PSA was high. PSA was retested and still high. I had no symptoms and was referred to a urologist. The ultra sound looked great DRE was fine etc. Had a biopsy and out of 12 samples cancer was found in one. The rest is history.

Perhaps we will see you one day. We travel frequently in our motor home. If ever you are in North East Ohio, let us know and we will have you over for dinner. A month ago we met with another PC survivor and hid wife from Plano Texas that belonged to another PC group. He and his wife were visiting their daughter in the area.

Take care and Charmaine and I have you in our prayers.
