About Me:
62 yr old male. Alerted at age 55 during routine physical in August, 2001 by 5.9 PSA. Diagnosed by Urologist after DRE, ultrasound and biopsy. Chose radical prostatectomy alternative. Surgery was performed in November, 2001. Pathology reported lymph nodes clear. Pathology report indicated that tumor was to the margin, but did not appear to have escaped. Gleason scored at 3+4.

As reported data indicated 80+% probability that the tumor was effectively encapsulated, no subsequent radiation or other therapy was taken. PSA after surgery was >.01. Recheck has continued at 6 month intervals with results of >.01.

3 months after surgery, a urinary blockage occurred due to scarring at the point where the urethra was reattached to the bladder. Follow up outpatient surgery was required to relieve the blockage. There has been no re-occurrence of the blockage.

The surgical method employed was "nerve sparing" as understood in 2001. Actual results yielded capability for a limited erection. Use of ED drugs do not provide improvement.

Post op urinary leakage sometimes occurs when coughing, sneezing, lifting, squatting, etc. Kegel exercises do not contribute much to improvement.
