Re GRNVAC1 and GRNVAC2 ... These are similar but different agents also in development. For more information, see the Geron web site. They have been tested in prostate cancer but it is not clear how much potential they hold in this disease.

Sam: regarding GVAX, please see the news report on the main site. I did leave a comment for you somewhere on one of the discussion forums at the time. This does NOT look promising for the potential of GVAX in late stage disease. I think the other product you mention may be different.

Sam;

As a fellow Gleason 9 (we really should start a club somewhere. I am on ADT that is failing. Not too sure what the future holds, but then none of us do.

Anyway, this disease sucks.

Sam - saw your post in "healing the spirit" discussion - you deleted your response. We'd like to hear what you have to say. Can you give us the "readers digest" version?

Ah ... Now I unmderstand. "Off the shelf" as used in their press release does not mean "over the counter." GVAX (if it gets approved) is different from Provenge in that it does not need to be manufactured using the patinet's own cells, but it will be a prescription pharmaceutical, just like Lupron. And don't worry, I've been tracking the development of GVAX for 4 years. Earliest possible date for approval is perhaps very late 2009 but I think 2010 is more likely.

Sam: Can you please let me know where/how you heard that GVAC is available "over the counter"? If that is in America or Canada (or most of the world, in fact), it is illegal.

Sam,

Thanks for your reply. You might take a close look at the link between meat and dairy and prostate cancer, Dairy products, and, infact, skim milk more so than whole milk ( go figure ) has been associated with prostate cancer incidence. You might want to read "The China Study". This book details the 22 year research project by Cornell University, the largest diet/ disease study ever performed. The study demonstrated a direct link between incidence of breast and prostate cancer and dairy product comsumption. The implications are startling. Communities that comsume no dairy products rarely have coronary heart disease, osteoporosis, type 2 diabetes, and only one in 10,000 dies from prostate or breast cancer. Dairy has high levels of growth hormones that occur naturally. Remeber, a calf doubles it's weight every 60 days. Humans should never have consumed the milk of another species. Human breast milk is very different in content. In addition, Monsanto introduced a product used by most dairymen in 1994 that increases hormone levels even more. Growth hormones are not destroyed with pasteurization or digestion. They stimulate the growth of both prostate cancer cells and breast cancer cells. A recent study out of Great Britian has also limked dairy to both prostate and breast cancer. I look at dairy and beef as poison.....and I am careful not to eat any processed foods with dairy solids or whey. The national goup, "Physicians for Responsible Medicine" is attempting to force the dairy association to place warning labels on dairy products.

You might also consider reading: DIet for a New America by John Robbins The spectrum by Dean Ornish, MD who conducted a study of men with advanced prostate cancer on vegan diets which showed reduction in PSA and tumor volume, and " Beating Prostate Cancer with Hormone Therapy and Diet by Charles Meyer, MD ( Oncologist with advanced prostate )cancer himself)
I do not think that diet can beat this disease after metastasis. But there is good evidence it can slow it.
Good Luck and God Bless

Thanks a lot!!! Your comments are very helpful to me. My biopsy was given with a Lanacaine injection too. I did not mind it at all.
