About Me:
Aged 53, I work as a maintenance planner at a cream cheese factory. I'm divorced with 2 children and engaged to Shirlene. Diagnosed with Prostate at 49 on 10/03/2004 with a PSA of 29.48, 8 out of 8 positive biopsies, T2 stage with a Gleason score of 7. C.T. and bone scans show no evidence of spread. I was started on hormone therapy straight away and as it is a high risk cancer I have had the following treatments. Under Dr. Scott Caruthers at the Royal Adelaide Hospital I have had 23 external beam radiation treatments to the pelvic area, starting 12/07/2004 and finishing 11/08/2004. After 2 weeks recovery I had 3 High Dose Rate Brachytherapy treatments at the William Buckland Centre at Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital under Dr. Jeremy Millar 30/08/2004 – 01/09/2004. followed by hormone treatment for 2 more years, Monthly then 3 monthly Zoladex implants.
PSA tests are now fine but still bugged with side effects of the treatment.

Brian - thanks for the update. You're about the same age as my husband, which is young in my book. This has been quite a journey for you so far. What is your next step? How long will you wait? When's your next PSA? You're right that technology, research and development in PC is changing the future every day. Life is good. Try to keep a positive attitude and see your cup as half full. It may be more helpful than the treatments :-)

Brian - good to hear from you. Yes, although our treatment was different, we are all part of the PC community at large and that is the common thread in our lives. Hope the side effects will get better. Let me know when you get the results from your PSA. Stay in touch.

Hi Brian,

I'm about to embark on hormone therapy and EBRT, starting next month. Do you have any tips for me? What preparations did you make (or did you wish you had made) before starting your therapy?

/Paul in Los Angeles

Hi Brian - welcome aboard. I think we have about a half-dozen Aussies so far. You'll find you have plenty of company here, whether you're interested in the youthful perspective, EBRT, brachytherapy, or hormone therapy.

Welcome Brian. It's good to have you. You might want to also join the Hormone Suppression group.

Want to know a fun thing to do at footy? Go to AIMEE Stadium to a match between the Power and Tigers. Yell out "Go Bumblebees!" I can assure you that to any stray tourist at AIMEE Stadium, black and yellow outfits look justifiably like that. It's a lot of fun to do. I speak from experience.

Brian - if you go to the tab at the top for groups - go to Younger Men group, there is a tab that says "join the group". Just click on that and when you go back to your page, you'll see the group icon on the left. Good to have you here!
