About Me:: Diagnosed with low volume Gleason 6 cancer in May of '07. I did not want to accept the risks associated with the RP my urologist recommended and went on active surveillance.

I underwent a 3-D mapping prostate biopsy on Sept 5, '08 at the University of Colorado Cancer Center in Denver in hopes of qualifying for a focal cryotherapy procedure which seems to be a better choice for me than active surveillance.

Dr Barqawi took 51 cores and only 2 of them came back positive - both less than 10% cancer. The Gleason score which measures aggressiveness remained 6(3/3) so this is not aggressive cancer, and not one that I should fear has metastisized. There are two very small areas of cancer on the right side and the left side is clean.

Based on the results, I could safely stay on a surveillance routine, but I'd rather have him treat the cancer while the data is current and remove all doubt. He should be able to do focal cryo with a very low likelihood of side effects (especially compared to "gold standard" treatments - RP and radiation). He'll be back to me later in the week with more information and some images.

I'm sure he must have checked into our cancer research center here and I suppose they have good doctors. Since I have not worried about this problem as of yet, I guess I should be looking now before the problem arises. Were you satisfied with the doctors here.
