Profile Information

Have you been diagnosed with prostate cancer?
yes
What brings you to the New Prostate Cancer InfoLink social network?
continuing my 10 year research of the disease from VARIED sources to stay current on scientifically-based informationfor educating and counseling men on PCa.
Would you help us grow the network? Would you tell others about it?
If it is justified by reliable content.
About Me:
I have been dedicated to the unbiased education of newly diagnosed PCa patients for 10 years, including having made over 3,500 Posts on the subject on various Internet sites, particularly on WebMD.
Medically Related Professional Background:
I am a retired Medical Administrator of 30 years experience initiated at the University of Michigan Medical Center where I began my career as a Hospital Administrator for 4 years. I then left the U of M to take a position in the then emerging field of Group Practice Administration by providing the lay leadership for two continually expanding Medical Groups over the next 26 years. During that time I was active in leadership roles in medically related affairs on National, Regional, State and Local levels. I am a LIFE MEMBER in Medical Group Management Association and a (Distinguished) FELLOW in the American College of Medical Practice Executives. I am a former national President of that certification and standard-setting professional body.

Some Personal Medical Information:
I had Prostate Cancer (PCa) diagnosed and successfully treated (so far) with traditional open Retropubic Radical Prostatectomy (RRP) in 1998, confirmed by a continual PSA of LESS THAN 0.1 ng/ml, ever since.

An UNRELATED Renal Cell CarcinomaI (RCC) in December, 2000 caused the removal of left Kidney by Laparoscopic Nephrectomy. In February 2007, a contra-lateral Laparoscopic Adrenalectomy was performed, due to a metastatic recurrence of the RCC in my right Adrenal Gland. A month later I, also, had a dual-chamber Heart Pacemaker and Atrial lead replaced, after 16 years of reliable service by the first unit, originally implanted to treat Sick Sinus Syndrome (SSS), a cardiovascular electrical disorder. Unfortunately, complications experienced during that replacement required that the surgical procedure be repeated the following day and briefly extended my Hospital stay.

I am familiar with and understand the workings (strength AND weaknesses) of the American health care system and had 30 years of daily involvement with those professionals who populate and influence. it. A few years ago I co-chaired a program in London, England, designed to familiarize U.S and Canadian professionals with the British National Health System and that exposure provide a foundation for the better understanding of the "State-run-medicine" approach (strengths AND weaknesses) employed by most other industrialized nations.

I have related to the medical delivery system as both an "insider" and an "outsider". and I enjoyed it more as an insider, I must admit!
